Our Story
We met in 2009, in Malverne, NY. Picture fourteen-year-old Cathy and thirteen-year-old Philip, walking into an empty cafeteria on the first floor to try out for the marching band’s drumline. We were both early (a first and last for both of us), decided we didn’t want to wait, and turned to each other.
“Want to jump out the window and go outside?” (We’ll let you guess who said this.)
A shrug. Then, “Sure.”
An absolutely hilarious friendship began and continued throughout high school — we bonded over drumline and band music (The Planets, Fate of the Gods, King Kong, to name a few), Doctor Who, One Direction, Taco Bell, Super Mario…the list went on.
Two years into college, things changed. Sometimes, it’s just that easy. What had started as a solid best-friendship evolved into something with love, trust, comfort, and a complete understanding of each other.
Not long after, we began a long-distance relationship. We spent hours on the phone (shocking, considering that we hate phone calls), video chatted after class and before bed, and mailed gifts to each other.
We tried to visit each other once a year, but eventually shifted that mindset to travel together somewhere new instead of just to see each other. We started our European tour, visiting The Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, and England over two years.
After six years of living thousands of miles away from each other, we finally moved in together in Boston, MA. With world events being what they were in 2020, we spent a truly enjoyable amount of time squished together in a 600-square-foot apartment, growing closer. Throughout the years, we kept traveling, exploring Greece, Italy, Scotland, and Mexico, with plans to finish our Eurotrip and head to other continents in the future.
In 2024, we went to Italy to celebrate our 10th anniversary. After a fantastic few days in Rome (iconic ruins and pasta: a combination of our wildest dreams), we went to experience Carnival in Venice. On the morning of our anniversary, Phil planned a surprise breakfast on our hotel’s gorgeous rooftop, with our favorite songs playing on a loop. He asked Cathy to face the famous canals for a quick photo, and when she turned back around, he was on one knee, proposing with a beautiful, custom-made, emerald ring.That moment lives on repeat in our heads as one of the best days of our lives.
Sometimes we think back to the day we met each other. It was so easy, the flow of conversation between us. It was almost as if we were meant to know each other, in whatever shape or form. All we know (and we’ve known this for a very long time) is that we will be together for the rest of our lives, and beyond. We’re excited to celebrate our love at our weddings this year, and even more excited to celebrate with our loved ones.
